wood
The wood
I use natural hardwoods taken from storm-fallen trees or trees that were removed during urban tree management. I do not cut down parts of or full trees for the purpose of carving.
The Carving Process
My pieces are carved by hand with traditional hand tools including axes, saws, and carving knives. When finished, I apply a layer of 100% walnut oil which is completely food safe.
Care
Wash your new woodenware with warm soapy water by hand. Do not run them through the dishwasher. Take care not to leave the piece soaking in water, or the wood may oxidize and change color. After extended use, the oil that was used to finish the piece will slowly be scraped away. It is fine to leave it as-is, but applying a thin coat of neutral, food safe oil (like walnut or linseed oil) will bring back some of the original shine. After applying, allow the oil to cure for several days to a week for the longest lasting effect.
